The beginning of the year is a great time to reset, refresh and simply rejuvenate your life!  So, why do so many New Year’s resolutions tend to fade away after a few months – or even just after a few weeks? Many people give up because the changes are too much all at once and too challenging.

It is very important to set goals for yourself for the right reasons: What do you truly want to change or strengthen within yourself?  Perhaps a fit body, change of diet, to quit smoking, worry less, etc.  Whatever it is you want to accomplish, the “magic” formula is the same: you must change your mindset and be gentle with yourself.  Achieving one’s goals most often comes to people when they quietly work to make their changes, especially in the very beginning stages. By sharing too much as you begin this new regime may put extra stress on yourself to live up to others expectations instead of your own.

Let’s say, for example, you want to lose weight; plan to choose healthy foods and move your body more. That’s an important first step, but it’s just as important that your inner dialog is positive about this change. You can easily trick your brain into believing you either love or hate something in mere weeks. So, while you may want that piece of cheese cake as a late-night snack, all you need to do is say to yourself that you love feeling lighter, healthier, and you no longer like that heavy greasy feeling of those types of food. Every time you have a healthy meal, or you have exercised, tell yourself how good you feel, even if you don’t at first! Just keep expressing how much you enjoy this new way of living and soon your brain will absolutely accept it as fact: It truly is that simple. Your mindset is amazing!
